DigitAll acts to achieve more digital inclusion

DigitAll is a coalition of companies, social organisations and governmental bodies working together for more digital inclusion in Belgium. The ecosystem was set up in 2020 at the initiative of BNP Paribas Fortis. Proximus joined them in June 2021. Together, they are building up a network of companies, governmental bodies, social organisations and experts.

The risk of no longer being able to keep up in our digital society is not something that touches only the vulnerable or elderly. Each and everyone of us can be affected, even our youngsters. We therefore need to act to make sure everyone can be included in the digital society by making it accessible and making sure everybody acquires the necessary skills to be digitally active while being at ease.

We believe that everybody wins in a more digitally inclusive society. That’s why DigitAll strives to achieve a prosperous and inclusive Belgium where everyone has the same opportunities to be able to enjoy the better quality of life and job opportunities that digitalisation brings.

For that purpose we connect people and organisations that want to commit to bringing about a structural change and increasing the impact on digital inclusion in Belgium by means of co-creation and awareness raising, with an open and diverse mindset. We seek solutions for more digital inclusion and are taking steps to build a network of organisations and people who can contribute to this with the aim to create a real community, an ecosystem in which participants share experiences, work together and can use one another’s actions as a lever.

The ecosystem is a coalition of like-minded partners who work together on solutions and wider digital initiatives. Each of us is a digital inclusion ambassador. Together we are putting this important subject on the agenda in our organisations and networks.

Alenka Le Compte

e-inclusion staff member

Alenka Le Compte is the central contact for digital inclusion at Mediawijs. Mediawijs is the Flemish knowledge centre for digital and media literacy. Alenka coordinates various networks and meetings in Flanders, such as the e-Inclusion Taskforce that brings together public actors, non-profit organisations and the academic world.

Catherine Bals

Sustainability Department lead

Catherine Bals is Sustainability Department Lead at Proximus and the driving force behind ensuring sustainability is at the core of how they operate and embed it in everything they do. Catherine has therefore put her shoulders under the DigitAll initiative because she believes an ecosystem of connected parties pursuing a multiplying impact can realise more to make sure we achieve that inclusive digital society.

Change Facilitator

Eglantine Eeckhout is Change Facilitator at The Shift, the Belgian sustainability community. Eglantine is responsible for the "work and inclusion" topic and supervises the Belgian partnership with B Lab Benelux (B Corp certification).

Ilse Mariën

Post-doc researcher at SMIT VUB

Prof. Dr. Ilse Mariën (VUB) (ORCID) (F) is a post-doc researcher at SMIT VUB where she is leading several policy-oriented projects related to the societal impact of digitalization, digital inequalities, digital skills and digital inclusion policies. Ilse heads the Data, Governance and Communities Unit and teaches Policy Analysis in the Communication Science department of VUB. She is also appointed as a policy advisor for digital inclusion at the cabinet of Vice-Minister President Bart Somers.

Linde Verheyden

Director Public Affairs

Linde Verheyden is Director Public Affairs at BNP Paribas Fortis and is working on the crossroads of Public Affairs, Stakeholder Dialogue and Business Development. She is the key initiator of the DigitAll ecosystem and is convinced of the strength of our combined networks to realize the structural changes needed for more digital inclusion in Belgium.
